Transvaginal Scan of Pelvis
A transvaginal scan of the pelvis is a medical imaging procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the female reproductive organs, including the uterus, ovaries, cervix, and fallopian tubes. This type of ultrasound is performed by inserting a small, wand-like device into the vagina, which allows for a closer and more detailed view of the pelvic organs than traditional abdominal ultrasound.
Transvaginal ultrasound is often used as a diagnostic tool to evaluate a variety of gynecologic conditions, including abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, ovarian cysts, and suspected ectopic pregnancy. It is also used to monitor pregnancy in the first trimester, as well as to assess the thickness of the endometrial lining in women undergoing fertility treatments.
